Chicago Craft Beer Week 2017

Chicago has been dubbed the craft beer capital of the country! Craft beer is defined as beer that is made by small, independent brewers, typically in smaller batches. Craft brewers in the area occupy approximately 1.6 million square feet of commercial real estate. This is more than any other metro area in the country! The plentiful water from Lake Michigan, industrial buildings, and adventurous Chicagoans have all contributed to the rise of craft beers in Chicago. And guess what? The craft beer industry is still rapidly growing in the city!

Chicago Craft Beer Week #CCBW

Chicago Craft Beer week is upon us! From May 18-25, craft beer will take over the city. The week long event kicks off with the Beer Under Glass event. This event is held at the Garfield Park Conservatory, located at 300 N Central Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60624. Hosted by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, you can sample over 100 different breweries! Not to mention, the Garfield Park Observatory is one gorgeous place to enjoy a delicious brew!

For Friday’s event choice, it’s time to bust out your Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts and head on over to Tikipocalypse! This year’s Burnt City CCBW Beer Prom will give you the chance to dance the night away in your tiki attire. There’s even a costume contest! This event is sure to be a blast and will feature some tiki-centric beer as well as cocktails.

If Tikipocalypse isn’t your thing, go visit Paddy Long’s. They are hosting a Spiteful Brewing event this evening!

Saturday, May 20, 2017

Pipeworks is taking over the pop-up space at Emporium for their Boozy Bocce Brunch. They’ll host events in this space throughout the week, but for this brunch they’ll feature Bloody Mary’s with a Pipeworks pale ale beer, as well as Lizard King beermosas.

You can also check out the South Side Craft Beer Fest outside of Baderbrau. Details here.

Sunday, May 21, 2017

Illuminated Brew Works is throwing a Twin Peaks premiere party with a special selection of their beers at The General. They’re also tapping one of the weirdest beers we have ever heard of at this week’s festival — an oyster gose poured through fresh coffee beans. Be bold and brave and gift it a taste!

Monday, May 22, 2017

This year there are two events on Monday night that are definitely worth mentioning. Aurora’s Hopvine will host an Intro to Craft Beer event which will teach you about the basic brewing process, beer pairings, palate training, and other general beer knowledge.

ORland Park’s Brass Tap will also host a Brew 101 event. It will feature beer tastings, education, a souvenir pint glass, and a review of beer styles and flavors.

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

On Tuesday you can hit up Beermiscuous. This event brings suburban beers and brewery representatives to West Lakeview, giving you the chance to try beers hailing from outside the city limits. Breweries such as BBGB Brewery, Hop Farm, Ten Ninety, and 18th Street will be there. You can also expect Noon Whistle, Penrose, and Temperance.

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

On Wednesday head over to Lyon’s BuckleDown event. With a roundtable discussion about the current state of the beer business, it’ll definitely be an interesting event! There will be reps from Half Acre, Kinslahger, and Brickstone, as well as the host brewery. Sit down, sip your beer, and learn all about the business side of brews.

Thursday, May 25, 2017

Currently there’s a craze over New England style IPAs in the beer world. These super hoppy beers are hazy and thick, and the craze is alive and well. Forbidden Root  is hosting a “New Era IPA” takeover. This will feature 10 different breweries that will feature their take on a NEIPA.

If IPAs aren’t your favorite pour, you can head over to Ravenswood’s Fireside for their Beasts of the Barrel event. This event will feature multiple different barrel-aged beers.
