Fourth of July Events in Chicago

Fireworks at Navy Pier

  • 600 E. Grand Ave.
  • Head on down to Navy Pier on July 4 for one of the city’s biggest and best fireworks display. The show starts at 9:30pm, but you will want to get there early! Fireworks will light up the sky in tune to patriotic music.

Grant Park Music Festival: Independence Day Salute

  • Millennium Park – 201 E. Randolph St.
  • On Tuesday, July 4, from 6:30-8:00pm, the Grant Park Music Festival will put on its annual holiday concert. Gather your friends and family to listen to the patriotic music and enjoy the patriotic activities under the Jay Park Pritzker.

Freedom Fest 2017 at Navy Pier

  • 2017 marks the 4th Annual Freedom Fest at Navy Pier. Celebrate Independence Day on Navy Pier’s rooftop all night long! This family friendly even has incredible views of Chicago, Lake Michigan, and the Chicago skyline. Featuring delicious BBQ to eat, you can enjoy precious time with your friends and family, dance to music from the DJ, and celebrate America in style.

Odyssey Cruises

  • Take in the incredible Navy Pier fireworks display aboard Chicago’s Odyssey. This fancy dinner cruise is complete with dinner, platinum open bar, DJ, and dancing.

Shoreline Architecture Sightseeing Cruises

  • Tickets $69
  • Shoreline is one of Chicago’s premiere sightseeing cruise lines. On July 4, you can embark upon a 90 minute architecture fireworks cruise. You’ll get a great architecture tour on the Chicago River, then return to the dock to enjoy incredible views of the Navy Pier fireworks.

Wendella Boats

  • Tuesday, July 4
  • Depart at 7:00 pm, 7:15 pm, 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, 8:15 pm
  • Tickets range from $34-45
  • Take in the sights both north and south of town along the city’s gorgeous skyline. This briefly narrated tour will take you along some of Chicago’s gorgeous architecture and allow you to see some of the city’s 4th of July festivities.

Weekend Festivals and Activities Around the City

Windy City RibFest in Uptown: June 30-July 2

Three full days of barbecue and music take place during this 9th annual summer event! Enjoy some delicious food and amazing music from local and national rock/pop/indie acts. The event takes place at 4700 Broadway. Friday and Saturday from 12-10pm, and Sunday from 12-9pm.

African/Caribbean International Festival of Life: July 1-4

Taste and enjoy incredible food, fashion, arts and crafts, dancing, and live music at this eclectic festival. Multiple stages will feature reggae, R&B, gospel, African, jazz, world beat, salsa, merengue, cumbia, and other Caribbean/Latin inspired music. This family friendly event takes place at Union Park!

Chicago Cubs, Chicago Fire, and Chicago White Sox

This is a huge weekend for sports in Chicago. On July 1, the Chicago Fire take on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Toyota Park in a Major League Soccer match. On July 4, the Cubs take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Wrigley, and the White Sox take on the Oakland Athletics at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Ravinia Concerts 

See a concert at Ravinia, North America’s oldest and most diverse music festival presenting over 140 different concerts every summer. Purchase a reserved seat in the Pavilion or enjoy the sounds from the lawn. The weekend lineup features the Moody Blues on June 30, Lila Downs on July 1, The Beachboys and The Temptations on July 2, and Ryan Speedo Green on July 3.

Eyes to the Skies Festival

From June 30-July 2 head over to the Lisle Park District for the Eyes to the Skies Festival. Watch incredible fireworks displays at night, and hot air balloons during the day. You can even take a ride in a hot air balloon! This festival features a carnival, craft booths, and food that you won’t want to miss. Find times and ticket info here.

Taste of Chicago

From July 5-9, you can enjoy the city’s most popular food festival of the summer in Grant Park. Try cuisine from all across the city, with an endless variety of styles. There will be plenty of live entertainment and activities for adults and kids, so be sure to bring the whole family! The event itself is free to get into, but the food is sold separately.
