#1 The Field Museum
The Field Museum is open from 9 to 5 every day except Christmas. From dinosaurs to mummies and special exhibitions, it has something for everyone! Located at 1400 South Lake Shore Drive, the Field Museum is in the heart of Chicago’s museum campus. It’s easily accessible via car, bike, or public transit. #2 Naperville Riverwalk
The Naperville Riverwalk offers a kid-friendly, stream side stroll. With a large playground at one end, plenty of ducks to see, and a covered bridge to stroll, this scenic walk is gorgeous! At the end of the riverwalk, you’ll be in downtown Naperville. Hang out here to do some shopping and eating!
#3 Adler Planetarium
The Adler Planetarium is located at 1300 South Lake Shore Drive, in Chicago’s Museum Campus. Explore the great frontier of space at this fun venue! With programs based on credible science and educational research, this family-friendly activity is both fun and educational. Go chasing after eclipses, explore the moon, walk through space and time, and more with a visit to Adler Planetarium!
#4 Millennium Park
Millennium Park is a Chicagoan family staple. Springtime is the perfect time to head outdoors and explore this gorgeous part of our city! Tour the Lurie Garden, soak up some sun, pack a picnic, and make a day of it! Take a selfie in front of “The Bean.”
#5 Navy Pier
Navy Pier has been a top tourist attraction in the midwest for years! It has fun rides like the 150-foot Ferris wheel, a wave swinger, carousel, and more. There’s also restaurants, fireworks, sightseeing cruises, music, movies, and tons of other activities the whole family can enjoy!
#6 Museum of Science and Industry
For more than 80 years, Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry has been enlightening our city. Right now you can explore exhibits ranging from tornados to Teslas, ancient boats to futuristic robots, and more! #7 Skydeck Chicago
The Willis Tower is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere, made of more than 4.5 million square feet, including its Skydeck and 103rd floor glass viewing platform, The Ledge.
Head over to this amazing site and take in the view of Chicago from 103 stories up. The Ledge extends 4.3 feet from the skyscaper’s Skydeck on the 103 floor. Take a step out onto The Ledge to see a clear view 1,353 feet down. The Skydeck has a lot of fun stuff in store for kids too! Check it out here.
#8 Chicago Children’s Museum
The Chicago Children’s Museum is a place for families and kids of all ages to come create, explore, learn, and play. With three floors of exhibits and activities focused on literacy, science, math, arts, health, and more, this is truly an outing for the entire family!
Popular exhibits include the Dinosaur Expedition, WaterWays, Kids Town, Skyline, and more. Give this Chicago gem a visit!
#9 Chicago Children’s Theatre
According to their website, “The vision of Chicago Children’s Theatre is to be Chicago’s premier professional theatre company dedicated to creating awe- inspiring theatrical productions and programs for our communities through inclusion and accessibility inspiring young people and families to lead lives of adventure, courage, and curiosity”
Head on over to the Chicago Children’s Theatre this spring to see their incredible production of Pinocchio, running from April 20 to May 7. From May 2 to May 28 you can catch their production of Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Other Treasures.
#10 Lincoln Park Zoo
The Lincoln Park Zoo has free admission and is open 365 days a year! Head on over to see the lions roar, gorillas climb, and other wild wonders while in the heart of the city.
Each day you can see seal training and feeding, meet an animal, polar bear training, ape care, and more! Check out the website for more information on the zoo and its daily activities.
#11 Bobby’s Tike Hike
Bobby’s Tike Hike is designed specifically for families with kids ages 10 and under. Explore Chicago’s hidden gardens, the Lincoln Park Zoo, wishing fountains, rubbing the foot of a giant Abe Lincoln, biking the magnificent lakefront trail, and more! More information here.
Kids are welcome to go along on the Waterider tours as long as they paddle along with an adult! A guide will safely guide the group through Lake Michigan and the city’s river passages to see fireworks, learn about Chicago history and architecture, and more!
